Belo Horizonte was one of the country’s first planned cities, having been considered avant-garde since its early days. Through the course of the 20th century, numerous modernist buildings were constructed in the city, which turned it into an important landmark of Modernist architecture in Brazil. Biblioteca Pública Estadual – Praça da Liberdade, 21

Edifício Niemeyer – Praça da Liberdade, 153
Designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer in 1954, this residential building’s sinuous curves allude to the skylines of Minas Gerais’ mountains. This is one of our national history’s most important modernist projects.

Edifício Mape is another residential building, also designed by an iconic architect of Modernism, Sylvio de Vasconcellos, and built in 1958.
