As of this month, the largest cultural, tourist, educational, and creative complex in Latin America will embrace six more institutions: Casa UNA, Cefart Liberdade, Cura – Coletivo De Arte, Mercado Central, Sociedade Mineira Engenheiros, Espaço Cultural of PUC MINAS, and an already well-known building among locals, the Rainha da Sucata, which operates within the Tribunal de Justiça de Minas Gerais (TJMG), that is, Minas Gerais State Court. It will be the headquarters of the Court’s Orquestra Jovem and Coral Infantojuvenil, that is, the Court’s Youth Orchestra and Children’s Choir. There are 33 spaces currently participating in Circuito Liberdade, but the current goal is to reach an even higher number, maybe 50.

Although Circuito Liberdade was originally conceived in 2010 as surrounding Praça da Liberdade, the project’s reach and relevance flourished throughout the years. The expansion was a natural move. Today, considering the entire area surrounded by Avenida do Contorno, which corresponds to the city’s original construction plan, Circuito Liberdade works as a living, dynamic organism, which changes and updates, always looking to welcome not only a variety of artistic and cultural expressions into its structure, but also initiatives within tourism, education and the creative industry.

Circuito Criativo

The assembling of the creative economy into the network of member institutions proves this statement and amplifies this vibrant sector. Creative businesses like cafés, fashion stores, art galleries, among other establishments located within the bounds of Avenida do Contorno, will join Circuito Liberdade through a platform called Circuito Criativo. The entrepreneurs can subscribe their businesses to be part of Circuito. They will undergo a selection process and will receive an identification stamp.
