Circuito Liberdade surpasses 50 members, incorporates creative ventures, and consolidates itself as the largest cultural complex in Latin America.

Growth has been 60% since April, with the inclusion of 21 new spaces; the achievement was announced at a press conference this Wednesday morning (November 5th) at the Palácio das Artes.

In a press conference this Wednesday morning (November 5th), the Government of Minas Gerais, through the State Secretariat of Culture and Tourism (Secult-MG) and the Clóvis Salgado Foundation (FCS), announced the historic expansion of the Circuito Liberdade (Freedom Circuit). The complex has surpassed 50 members, including museums, cultural and tourism spaces, and now, creative economy ventures. From April to this month, the network has grown by 60%, with the addition of 21 new institutions, consolidating itself as the largest cultural, tourist, educational, and creative complex in Latin America.

This achievement comes in the year that the cultural ecosystem celebrates its 15th anniversary. On the occasion, a promotional video was also launched, created to present and publicize the network in its member spaces and in tourism promotion actions developed by SECULT-MG.

Culture and Development

In 15 years, the Circuito Liberdade has established itself as a network promoting culture, coordinating programming and promoting collaboratively built events. Currently, he is also focusing on creative ventures that strengthen culture and tourism while promoting economic development. “The Circuito Liberdade is the living expression of Minas Gerais' creative force. By integrating culture, tourism, and business, we connect art, innovation, and economic development. This expansion shows that culture is also an engine of prosperity and entrepreneurial freedom,” says Bárbara Botega, Secretary of State for Culture and Tourism of Minas Gerais.

For Sérgio Rodrigo Reis, president of FCS and general coordinator of Circuito Liberdade, accelerating the network's expansion stems from his new directive. “Our goal is for the Circuit to connect the largest possible number of cultural, tourism, and creative economy spaces within the perimeter of Avenida do Contorno. We want the network to be synonymous with the cultural experience of Belo Horizonte residents and those who visit our city, and this task is being accomplished by leaps and bounds, now realized in the welcoming ceremony for the new members,” he states.

Articulation

At the event, the executive coordinator of Circuito Liberdade, Lucas Amorim, presented the membership criteria so that other interested parties can integrate into the ecosystem. “We conducted a process of listening and articulation with the pioneering spaces, which resulted in the consolidation of the Internal Regulations that gave us a basis to seek spaces aligned with the proposal of Circuito Liberdade: connecting art, culture, creativity, and development. With clear and transparent criteria, and permanent document management, we want more creative spaces and ventures to join,” says Lucas Amorim.

Increased Audience

Since 2020, Circuito Liberdade has encompassed the entire region circumscribed by Avenida do Contorno. In constant expansion, the complex has seen a significant increase in visitors since the beginning of the year. In the first half of 2025 alone, more than 3.7 million people participated in network activities, a growth of approximately 70% compared to the same period in 2024. This result consolidates the Circuit as one of the main cultural and tourist destinations in Minas Gerais and the country.

Until September, the participating spaces promoted more than 17,000 activities, most of them free, including in-person and online events. Highlights of the program include the Virada da Liberdade (Freedom Turnaround), Ritos da Fé Mineira (Rites of Faith of Minas Gerais), Bitita – Festa da Palavra (Bitita – Festival of the Word), Primavera dos Livros (Spring of Books), Minas Junina (Minas Gerais June Festival), and the Alceu Valença Orquestra Ouro Preto show, in addition to Heritage Week and the Primavera dos Museus (Spring of Museums).

For the end of the year, new large-scale events are planned, such as the III Jornada de Educação em Museus (III Museum Education Conference), focusing on the promotion of Black Consciousness, and the traditional Natal da Mineiridade (Christmas of Minas Gerais Identity), which illuminates Praça da Liberdade (Liberty Square) and Avenida João Pinheiro. The celebration reinforces the Circuit's role as a vibrant space for culture, memory, and creativity that continues to grow far beyond Praça da Liberdade, connecting the entire capital region, originating from the territory within Avenida do Contorno, which radiates culture in Belo Horizonte.
